Castleford-based SipBuild UK has secured a deal with Kingspan, the global leader in high performance insulation, as part of its strategy to achieve turnover in excess of £6m over the next two years.

The partnership with the industry giant means SipBuild UK will use the Kingspan TEK® Building System for its client projects, supporting focus on growing its footprint in the public sector and among self-builders.

The deal follows a number of significant contract wins during 2014, which resulted in a 50 per cent increase in turnover.

SipBuild UK managing director Chris Duckworth said: “Partnering with Kingspan as our SIP manufacturer is the next step on our journey to securing our place as the dominant provider of SIP structures in the UK.

“We both see massive opportunity in the growth of SIPs as it becomes a mainstream construction method because of the speed of construction, the thermal qualities it provides and ease of erection on site.

“Using the Kingspan TEK® Building System panels provides our customers with confidence that they are dealing with the market leading supplier of SIP panels and a delivery partner with the skills and experience to erect structures on time and on budget.”

The Kingspan TEK® Building System has been hailed as a major development in off-site construction technology. It is a next generation SIP based construction method, ideal for all building types.

The technology can greatly speed up construction time while enhancing site safety. A two-storey Kingspan TEK® Building System kit can be erected in a matter of days and, once the kit is erected and the doors and windows installed, an airtight, waterproof environment is created.

Cladding, roofing and first fix can then proceed at the same time. There is no waiting around for rafters to be installed and the roof covering to go on.

With such a short build time there is little scope for delay and, since the factory manufactured panels arrive on site precisely engineered to the required specification the margin for on-site error can be all but eliminated.

Walls and roofs are constructed using SIPs connected with a unique jointing system. Timber I-joists (TJI joists) are used to create the structure for intermediate floors. The SIPs that lie at the heart of the System comprise two 15mm OSB3 (Oriented Strand Board) facings with a 112mm rigid urethane insulation core manufactured with a blowing agent that as zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

The OSB is auto-adhesively bonded to the core during the insulation manufacturing process resulting in reliable and superior adhesion.

The Kingspan TEK® Building System is intrinsically highly energy efficient and can give low running costs and impressive comfort for the lifetime of a building. The System comfortably exceeds the energy efficiency requirements of current Building Regulations/Standards. The Kingspan TEK® Building System yields worst case whole wall and roof U-values of 0.21 W/m².K, can easily be achieved with the addition of an insulated lining on the inside of the panels.

In addition to this the proprietary joining techniques used in the System can yield air leakage levels as good as 1m³/m²/hr at 50 Pa.

A Kingspan TEK® Building System wall, designed to achieve a U-value of 0.20 W/m².K can be 223mm deep. To achieve the same U-value a timber frame wall may have to be 385.5mm deep. This means the Kingspan TEK® Building System can give up to 10 per cent or more floor space for the same external dimensions.

The Kingspan TEK® Building System is recognised by building warranty providers such as NHBC and Zurich Municipal and has Lantac System approval. Kingspan Insulation Ltd provides a 20-year defect warranty for Kingspan TEK® Building System panels.

SipBuild UK offers full design, engineering and fabrication services at its purpose built factory unit in Castleford, West Yorkshire. It works with architects, contractors and self-builders to specify, deliver and construct SIP structures for the public sector and people who are building their own homes.

SipBuild UK cuts the raw Kingspan TEK® Building System panels to size, assembles them into sections of x metres and delivers them to site ready for its fully trained erection team to construct.
